|Sutter Creek Blues and Brews Festival
Coming September 2014
One of Sutter Creek's longtime favorite events is coming up on a historic anniversary. The Sutter Creek Blues & Brews Festival will be celebrating the 15th Anniversary. With that in mind, the Sutter Creek Business & Professional Association event committee decided that it was time to revamp the event. It is time to bring it back to it's roots and at the same time make it even bigger and better.
The committee has hinted that it will be held on Main Street, only actually in the middle of Main Street! This will make it a community event that everyone can come and enjoy, with vendors, food, and music, making it become more of a real festival. However, a change like this takes lots of planning and time is short for the regularly planned event which was scheduled for September 28th. Therefore, they have decided to postpone this years event so that they can focus all of their planning time on next year.
So, Blues fans, unfortunately you will not be attending the Sutter Creek Blues & Blues Festival this year....but look out for next year ... it is going to be a blast!!
The Sutter Creek Blues & Brews Festival was originally started in 1995 as a MicroBrew Tasting event and it was actually held on Main Street Sutter Creek. The downtown shops would host a different brewery inside their store or on the front porch as the case may be. People who purchased their sampling ticket would then stroll Main Street, meandering from store to store to sample many wonderful Micro Brews. There would be different musical venues along the way, where you could sit and enjoy the music or kick your heels up and dance a while.
After a few years, the event grew so large that the shops on Main Street could not handle that many people inside their stores, so the event was modified and held in Minnie Provis Park. Shortly after that it was modified again to be held in three venues: Eureka Street parking lot, Randolph Street, and the Violich parking lot at the north end of town. There was a band and breweries in each location and the attendees were free to visit each one over the coarse of the evening. This was so popular that the event grew to over 1,500 people in attendance.
Then there was a bump in the road with trying to get insurance and the event was dormant for three years. In 2007 the Sutter Creek Business & Professional Association brought back the popular event with a few changes to satisfy the insurance companies, and it has been a county wide favorite ever since.
Now it is time to celebrate the 15th Anniversary and the SCBPA wants to do something really new and extremely fun. So, there won't be a Blues & Brews this year....but look out for next year...it will be amazing!
